Ok, I'm gonna comment on my own post here, a little outre perhaps, but... All right then, I intended "The Endless River" to be about samsara... now, that's not all that obscure because the definition is continuous flow: birth, life, death, rebirth (rinse, repeat). Now, the dog, like most dogs, I should think, has little or no perception of the past, and the same perception of the future, so is the dog not free of hope and despair? The dog has no internal dialogue, so is the dog in a state of enlightment? No, I'm sure most would say that achieving (put that in italics) a still mind is more important than having one. Who was it that said "I never saw a wild thing feel sorry for itself..."? (nevermind, I know... afterall, Taos is in my home state).

I liked this one because it's not what you expect. I was expecting that Kathleen was going to shoot Big Nate- the end, but no! Even someone familiar with guns and what they can do can lose control of the weapon and have it turned on them. And someone who knows nothing about guns can use them for good(?) or evil. Heck- you don't need a gun to kill somebody.

Well, James Laros, I concur with your last statement, anyway. Many, (and by that I mean most, some might even go so far as to say an "overwhelming majority") of scientists to agree that so-called greenhiouse gasses are to blame for the [documented] climate change. Regrettably, I have seen is the vocal few who site data or "thingies" (love that) that document no climate change, are either themselves big industry (with the apparent ax to grind) or funded by said big industry (still the same ax to grind). THIS to my mind, is what makes it politcal. But this reply is my opinion, and I'm not really much trying to be either logical or objective. How'm I doing?

First comment, it is at least somewhat useful to know or substantially suspect whether the recent climate change is caused by or, again, substantially affected by humans. The reason is that if it has not be caused by humans what chance do we have to affect it in what we decide is a positive way (another interesting challenge)? If all the crap we have dumped in our ecosystem has not caused, or contributed to, this change what can we have to do to turn it around? While I am not much of a fan of consensus, Copernicus as you mentioned is a good example of why, I am a fan of facts or thingies that closely resemble facts. Ignoring the geological information and concluding that the earth is a few thousand years old is ignoring information that is pretty much as close as science gets to fact. On the other hand, our infantile understanding of climate, that has by the way been around for more than a few thousand years, the climate that is, has not produced thingies that I consider fact, at least yet. Either way, seems we should cut through the crap and strive for a cleaner environment for the known benefits of a cleaner environment. The saying don't shit where you eat comes to mind.
